We are often encouraged, whether it’s through the media, cultural expectations or our own thinking that we have to “get our body back” quickly after having a baby. This may lead us to working out too soon and too hard, and often results in burnout.
I’m so grateful for my conversation with Lisa Dienes, where we talked about the misunderstandings of our bodies and working out after the birth of a new baby, and more importantly how to gently ease back into fitness. One of the main themes presented by Lisa is to be kind to yourself and listen to what your body is telling you.
The truth is pregnancy changes your body, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t feel strong, comfortable and at home in your own body. If you’re training too hard every day, it’s going to take a toll on your body. Balance out the tough workouts with enough sleep, recovery time and moments in your day where you can relax and not feel stressed.
